The Nutrition Labeling and Education Act (NLEA) was passed by Congress in October 1990 via a unanimous-consent procedure in the House with no debate, sponsored by Henry Waxman, with Senators Ted Kennedy, Howard Metzenbaum, and Orrin Hatch supporting it in the Senate.
